Factors influencing the differentiation of amphibian embryos implanted into homologous immunologically competent hosts (Xenopus laevis)☆
[摘要] Xenopusembryosandlarvaeofsixdevelopmentalstagesfromlateblastulaetofeedingtadpoleswereimplantedintotheventrallymphsacofimmaturepostmetamorphichostsofthesamespecieswhichwerekeptatameantemperatureof18.5°C.Implantsexaminedonthe4thdaycontainedabloodvascularsystemanastomosingwiththatofthehost.Somedegreeofdifferentiationoccurredinallimplantedembryos,butahigherproportionofnormallydevelopedtissueswasfoundinimplantsofembryosfromlaterdevelopmentalstages.Themajorityofdifferentiatedstructureshaddevelopedbythe8thday.Aproportionofimplantswasnotrecoveredduetoresorptionbythehostandinsomeimplants,particularlyfromlaterstageembryos,hemostasis,necrosis,andlymphocyticinfiltrationwerenoted.Thesechangessuggestedthatimplantsmayelicitahomograftreactionandfollowinganincreaseintheambienttemperature,whichisknowntoenhancetherateoftheimmunereactioninAmphibia,thesechangesbecamemorepronounced.PresensitizationofthehostbytheapplicationofskinhomograftsfromadultXenopusledtotherapidresorptionofimplantsofembryoswhichweretheprogenyoftheskingraftdonors.Thisconfirmedthattheimplantiscapableofelicitinganimmunereactionandsuggestedthattransplantationantigenswerepresenteitheratthetimeofimplantationorweresynthesizedshortlyafterward.Changesindicatinganimmunereactionwerealsoobservedinembryosimplantedintotheirownmother.Itisassumedthatiftheoocytecontainstransplantationantigensthesemustbeidenticaltothoseofthemother,andthereforethereactionofthemothertoherprogenymustbeelicitedbytransplantationantigensarisingafterfertilization.
