Monoamine oxidase in the eye, brain, and whole embryo of developing Xenopus laevis
[摘要] Monoamineoxidase(MAO)activitywasmeasuredinwholeembryos,brains,andlateraleyesofdevelopingXenopuslaevis.14C-5-hydroxytryptamineprecursorwasintroducedintoaninvitrosystem,andafterincubationradioactive5-hydroxyindoleaceticacidproductwasextractedandmeasuredinaliquidscintillationcounter.TheMAOactivityofwholeembryos,measuredfromgastrulatopremetamorphiclarva,rosefromalmostundetectabletoveryhighlevels,whichleveledoffatlimbbudstage.Eyes,measuredfromimmediatelyafterhatching,showedlowactivitywhichrosetolimbbudstageandthenleveledoff.Brains,measuredfromsomewhatlaterafterhatching,hadabouttwicetheactivityfoundineyesbutfollowedaboutthesamepattern.BrainsshowedahigherconcentrationofMAOactivitythanwholeembryos.Theseresultswereconsideredinrelationtootherenzymesmeasuredinthissamepathwayandonthesameanimal.Thereappearstobeanincreaseinindoleenzymeactivityduringdevelopmentandaconcentrationofthisactivityinthebrain.Thepossiblerelationbetweenavailablesubstratereleasedfromstoredyolkandincreasedenzymeactivitywasdiscussed.
