The influence of neural retina and lens on lens regeneration from dorsal iris implants in Triturus viridescens larvae☆
[摘要] Inordertostudytheroleoftheneuralretinaandlensonlensregenerationfromtheiris,sectorsofmid-dorsalirisfromlarvalTriturusviridescensdonorswereimplantedintothefollowingsitesinlarvalhostsofthesamespecies:(a)dorsalfin,(b)anteriorchamberoftheeye,hostlenspresent,(c)vitreouschamberoftheeye,hostlensabsent,and(d)vitreouschamberoftheeye,hostlenspresent.Intheselocations,theimplantediriswassubjecttotheinfluenceof(a)neitherneuralretinanorlens,(b)probablyonlylens.(c)neuralretinaonly,or(d)neuralretinaandlenstogether.Lensregenerationfailedtotakeplaceintheanteriorchamberordorsalfin,thusshowingthenecessityoftheneuralretinalstimulus.Lensregenerationoccurredfromimplantsintothevitreouschambernotonlyintheabsenceofthehostlens,butalsoinitspresence.However,boththefrequencyoflensregenerationandthesizeandgrowthrateoftheregeneratesweredecreasedwhentheimplantwaslocatedbetweentheneuralretinaandhostlens,thereforebeingsubjecttotheinfluenceofbothtissuestogether.Itwassuggestedthattheinhibitoryactionofthehostlensonirisimplantsinthislocationcouldbe(1)mechanical,bydisplacingtheimplantmoredeeplyintothevitreouschamberor(2)chemical,bycompetingwiththelensdevelopingfromtheimplantfortheneuralretinalfactororthroughtheproductionofaspecificinhibitorforthehomologoustissue.
