The effect of an amino acid analog on catheptic activity in somite mesoderm of the chick embryo
[摘要] 1.1.Inthesomitemesodermof45-hourchickembryos(HamburgerandHamilton'sstage11)thereisahighercathepticactivityintheunsegmentedregionthanintheregionthathasalreadyundergonesegmentation.2.2.Thesomitemesodermofembryosculturedfor10hoursonanagar-glucosemediumcontaining0.15mg/mloftheleucineanalogW-bromoallylglycine(BAG)hasamarkedlyhighercathepticactivitythansomitemesodermofcontrolembryosculturedwithoutBAG.3.3.TheseresultsconfirmtheindicationsfromSchultzandHerrmann'sstudy(1958)oftherateofuptakeofradioactiveglycineintothesetissues,whichwerethatthereisanabnormallyhighrateofproteinbreakdowninBAG-treatedsomitemesoderm.4.4.ThefindingsarecomparedwiththoseofvonHahnandLehmann(1958)usingaleucineanalogonXenopuslarvae.Theroleofcathepsinsinembryonicdevelopment,andthesignificanceofindividualaminoacidsforparticularstepsindifferentiation,arediscussed.
