The effect of tetracycline on the development of the skeletal system of the chick embryo☆☆☆
[摘要] Introductionoftetracyclineintotheyolksacofthe8-daychickembryoresultsinarapidandwidespreaddistributionofthedrugthroughouttheembryo.After24hours,thetetracyclinefluorophoreislocalizedexclusivelyintheskeletalsystem.Injectionof0.1–0.5mgofthedrugdoesnotseriouslyimpairgrowthoftheembryoormineralizationofthebones.Increasedamounts(2.5–5mg),however,resultinamarkedreductioninthesizeoftheembryo.Thebonesoftheseembryosarereducedinsize,theyappearbowed,mineralizationisreduced,andanabnormalcalcificationofthecartilageofthematrixoccurs.Thetetracyclinefluorophoreisincorporatedintothemineralizedcomponentoftheboneexclusively.Theinhibitionofmineralizationfollowinginjectionoftetracyclineisprobablyduetothereductioninthenumberoffreecationswhichsubsequentlyresultsintheformationofabonedeficientinminerals.
