Embryonic potency of embryoid bodies derived from a transplantable testicular teratoma of the mouse☆
[摘要] Testicularteratomasoccurrelativelyfrequentlyininbredstrain129mice.Occasionallytheygrowprogressivelyandsurviveserialtransplantationindefinitely.Onesuchtumorhasbeenmaintainedforapproximatelysixyears,anditstillretainsitshighlypleomorphicnature.Whenestablishedasanascitictumor,thisteratomaiscapableofproducingthousandsoffree-floatingformationsthatresemble5-and6-daymouseembryos.Theaimofthisinvestigationwastotestthehistogeneticcapacitiesoftheseembryoidbodies.Singleembryoidbodiesweretransplantedintotheanteriorchamberoftheeyesofmaturestrain129mice.Growthsresultingfromtheseintraoculargraftswereexaminedhistologicallyandsomewereretransplantedsubcutaneouslytoformsolidtumorsublines.Boththeintraocularandsubcutaneousgraftscontainedmanytypesoftissues,includingavarietyofepithelia;neuraltissue;cartilagewithperipheralossification;smooth,cardiac,andvoluntarymuscle;trophoblasticgiantcells;layersofectodermandendoderm;andundifferentiatedembryonalcells.Itisconcludedthattheembryoidbodiesderivedfromthetesticularteratomasofstrain129micehavesimilaritiesinembryonicpotencyaswellasinmorphologytonormalmouseembryos.
