The maternal and zygotic control of development by cinnamon, a new mutant in Drosophila melanogaster☆
[摘要] AgeneticanalysisoftheX-linkedmutantcinnamon(cin)inDrosophilamelanogasterdemonstratesthatthislocuscontrolsaprocessthatisessentialforzygotesurvival.Survivalofazygoteisshowntobeensuredbyeitherthematernalexpressionofthecin+alleleorbythepresenceofacin+alleleinthezygoticgenome.Thecinlocusisalsoshowntoaffectpteridinepigmentmetabolism.Thepresenceofacin+alleleineitherthemotherorzygoteisrequisitefornormalzygoticeyepigmentation.Itisshownthatcinflieslackxanthinedehydrogenase,anenzymeinvolvedinpteridinemetabolism,andaccumulatetheenzyme'spteridineandpurinesubstrates.Therelationshipbetweentheeffectsofcinonviabilityandxanthinedehydrogenaseactivityisdiscussed.
