Nasal pit formation in the hamster: A transmission and scanning electron microscopic study☆
[摘要] Thesurfacemorphologyofcellscomprisingthenasalplacodeandadjacentbodysurfacewasexaminedbytransmissionandscanningelectronmicroscopyduringnasalpitformationinhamsterembryosranginginagefrom814to912dayspostcoitum.Asharpdistinctionbetweentheapicalsurfaceappearanceofcellsofthenasalepitheliumandcellsofthesurroundingperidermdevelopsattheperipheryofthenasalplacode.Peridermcellsincreaseinsurfacearea,exhibitachangeinthedistributionofsurfacemicrovilli,andmanyacquireasingleciliumpercell.Cellsofthenasalplacoderetainadensesurfacecoatofmicrovilliandexhibitrelativelysmallerapicalsurfaceareas.Olfactoryrodscanbepositivelyidentifiedonthebasisoftheirultrastructureatthenasalgroovestage.Theventralmarginofthenasalgroovedoesnotinitiallydependonthemaxillaryprocess,butisboundedbythelateralandmedialnasalprocesses.Fromtheirearliestdevelopmenttheoralandnasalcavitiesappeartobeseparatedinthisspecies.
