Expression of lactate dehydrogenase phenotypes in intraspecific and interspecific matings of two species of Xenopus☆
[摘要] StarchgelelectrophoresishasbeenusedtoexaminelactatedehydrogenasephenotypesintwospeciesofXenopusandtheirhybridsobtainedfromreciprocalcrosses.Thepatternsarecomplex,consistingofasmanyas18bandsinsomematerial.Differencesbetweenlaevisandmulleriisozymesallowanevaluationofthecontributionofbothparentstothephenotypesoftheirhybridoffspring,andthedeterminationofapproximatetimesofpaternalalleleexpression.Thephenotypeofearlyembryosresemblesthatofthematernalparentuntilhatching,whenevidenceofpaternalinfluenceisfirstapparent.Regardlessoftheearlyappearanceofpaternalenzyme,reciprocalhybridsbearastrongerresemblancetothematernalparentuntilwellaftertadpolegrowthbegins.Oncethismaternaleffectdisappears,bothlaevisandmulleriappeartocontributetotheLDHphenotypewithoutpredominanceoftheisozymesofeitherspecies.Evidenceforthepossibleformationof“hybrid”enzymesconsistingofsubunitsofbothspeciesinoneactiveenzymemoleculeispresented.ExpressionofLDHphenotypeisvariableintheunfertilizedeggsoffertilehybridfemales.
