Coordinate regulation of enzyme inducibility and developmental competence in Aspergillus nidulans☆
[摘要] SporesofthefungusAspergillusnidulansgerminatedindefinedliquidmediumandproducedhyphaewhichgrewassubmergedundifferentiatedcultures.Theabilityofculturesofvariousagestorespondtoenzymeinductiveconditionswasdetermined.Intracellularnitratereductasewasinducedbyadditionofnitratetodefinedgrowthmedium;extracellularneutralproteasewasinducedbyremovalofsulfur.Theseenzymesaremetabolicallyunrelated,andnotrequiredforgrowthordifferentiation.At23–26hrafterinoculationofspores,growingculturesunderwentadistinctdecreaseintheirinductionresponseforeachinducibleenzyme.Growingculturesmaintainedtheactivityoftheconstitutiveenzymeglucose-6-phosphatedehydrogenase.Thechangeintheabilityofculturestorespondtobiochemicalinductivestimulioccurredatthesametimethatculturesbecamedevelopmentallycompetenttorespondtoamorphologicalinductivestimulus.Theconcurrentchangesintheabilityofculturestorespondtoenzymaticandmorphologicalinductionwasnotduetochangesingrowthrate,depletionofmedium,inhibitorproduction,ortoaninabilitytomaintainenzymeactivities.Thechangeswereindependentofanyspecificinductionstimulus.Themechanismresponsibleforthepleiotropiceffectsappearstobeendogenouslycontrolled.Theseresultssuggesttheexistenceineukaryotesofamechanismforthecoordinatedregulationofpotentialtoexpressfacultativefunctions.
