Genetic control of morphogenesis in the multicellular alga Ulva mutabilis: Defect in cell wall production
[摘要] Distinctultrastructuraldifferencesbetweenthecellwallsofthemutantlumpy(lu)andwild-typearedemonstrated.Thepolyglucanfibrilsinthewild-typewallappearstraightanddenselypackedcomparedtothemoreunevenandlooselywovenfibrilsinthemutantwall.Themutantgrowsasanaggregateoflooselyconnectedcells.Thethreecelltypesseeninthewildtypedonotdifferentiate,andconsequentlynobladeandholdfastforms.Itissuggestedthatthedefectinthecellwallproductiontakesawayanecessaryconditionfornormalmorphogenesis.Thelumpymutantshowsepistasisovertwootherchromosomalmutants,buandSl,describedearliertobemorphogenic.
