Dermal-epidermal interactions and the site of action of the yellow (Ay) and nonagouti (a) coat color genes in the mouse☆
[摘要] Theallelesattheagoutilocusinmicedeterminewhethereumelaninorpheomelaninissynthesizedbythefollicularmelanocytes.Previousstudieshaveindicatedthedermisasthesiteofactionoftheagoutialleles,whileimplyingthattheepidermisplaysonlyapassiverole.Usingmethodsofdermal-epidermalrecombinationsofembryonicyellow(Ay)andnonagouti(a)mouseskin,thestudyreportedhereindicatesthattheepidermis,aswellasthedermis,playsaroleintheactionoftheagoutialleles.Whenyellowdermisisrecombinedwithnonagoutiepidermis,thehairsproducedcontainonlypheomelanin,thussubstantiatingtheroleofthedermis.However,thereciprocalcombinationofnonagoutidermisandyellowepidermisalsoproduceshairscontainingpheomelanin,indicatingamoreimportantrolefortheepidermis.Theroleofthedermal-epidermalinteractionsintheactionoftheallelesattheagoutilocusisdiscussed.
