Dopa decarboxylase activity in Aedes aegypti: A preadult profile and its subsequent correlation with ovarian development☆
[摘要] DopadecarboxylaseactivitywasmonitoredthroughouttheentirelifecycleofAedesaegypti.Peaksofactivityweredetectedateachlarvalmolt,atthelarval-pupalecdysis,andateclosion.Thedopadecarboxylaseactivityinadultswashighrightaftereclosion,butitthendroppedrapidlyandafter5daysverylittleactivitywasdetectable.Thisactivity,however,waspersistentandremainedessentiallyconstant,albeitlow,forupto15daysofadultlife.Throughoutthispartofthestudynosexdifferencesinenzymaticactivitywereobserved.Adramaticincreaseinthelevelofdopadecarboxylasewasnotedafteradultfemaleswereallowedtobloodfeed.Sinceabloodmealisnecessaryinordertoinitiateovariandevelopmentinthisspeciesandsincetherateofincreaseofenzymaticactivityparalleledoocytematurationacausalrelationshipwasindicated.Specifically,wesuggestthatthedopadecarboxylaseisincorporatedintotheeggstobeusedlaterforsubsequentsclerotization.Injectionofthemoltinghormoneβ-ecdysoneintonon-bloodfedfemalesresultedinamarkedstimulationofdopadecarboxylaseactivity.Nosuchstimulationwasobservedinsaline-injectedadultfemales.Theadultfemaleenzymaticactivityprofileobtainedwithtimeafterhormoneinjectionwasqualitativelythesameasthatseenafterabloodmeal.ThepossibilitythatecdysoneoranecdysonelikehormoneisnecessaryfornormalovariandevelopmentinAedesaegyptiisdiscussed.
