Mechanism of soybean trypsin inhibitor induced polyspermy as determined by an analysis of refertilized sea urchin (Arbacia punctulata) eggs☆
[摘要] Soybeantrypsininhibitor(SBTI)retardstheseparationofthevitellinelayerfromthesurfaceofArbaciaeggsandtheformationofthefertilizationmembrane.Numerouslociofvitellinelayer(corticalprojections)remainassociatedwiththeplasmamembraneofSBTI-treatedzygotesimmediatelyafterinsemination.Graduallytheattachedportionsofvitellinelayerdecreaseinnumberandbyapproximately15minpostinseminationthecorticalprojectionsaresparseornonexistent.MonospermicSBTI-treatedzygotesshowacorrespondingdeclineinboththeincidenceanddegreeofrefertilization(polyspermy)uponreinseminationduringthisperiod.UltrastructuralanalysisdemonstratesthatrefertilizingspermatozoaareabletofusewithandpenetrateSBTI-treatedzygotesonlyattheapicalsurfaceofthecorticalprojections,i.e.,wherethevitellinelayerremainsattachedtotheplasmamembraneofthezygote.Thesedataindicatethatthevitellinelayerliningtheapicalsurfaceofthecorticalprojectionsretainsstructuralandfunctionalpropertiescharacteristicofthesurfaceoftheunfertilizedovum.
