Cytochrome changes during honey bee flight muscle development
[摘要] Theprogressivechangesinthecompositionofthecytochromesystemofthewingmusclesduringdevelopmentthroughpupalstagesandearlyadulthoodinhoneybees(ApismelliferaL.)wasstudiedinhomogenateswithalowtemperaturedifference-spectrumtechnique.Cytochromesb5anda+a3aretheonlyonesfoundduringmostofthepupalperiod.Theassociationofthissystemwithmyofibrilsynthesisisdiscussed.Cytochromeb5abruptlybecomesundetectable2daysbeforeemergence.Latepupalandearlyadultlifeischaracterizedbytheprogressivegrowthofcytochromesa+a3,aswellastheappearanceandprogressivegrowthofcytochromesb+c1andc.Thisgrowthparallelsthegrowthofthespecializedwingmusclemitochondria,thesarcosomes,andiscompleted20daysafteremergence.Atthistimethebeeiscapableofsustainedflight,afacultythatisonlygraduallyachievedduringthesarcosomegrowthperiod.Theassociationoftheadultcytochromesystemwiththeintenseenergydemandinthewingmusclesduringflightisdiscussed.
