Observations on microextensions from the surface of isolated vertebrate cells☆
[摘要] Microextensionsfromthesurfaceoftissuecellsinvitrowereexaminedbylightandelectronmicroscopy,andtheiractivitieswererecordedbytime-lapsemotionpictures.Twotypesoftheseextensionsweredescribedonthebasisoftheirstructureandbehavior.Thoseofonetypearestrandsofcytoplasmspunoutfromtheretreatingbordersofretractingcellprocesses.Theseretractionfibrilswereimmobileandshowednospecialstructureinelectronmicrographs.Microextensionsofthesecondtypewereactivelyprojectedfromthesurfaceofthecellsand,duringtheirshortexistence,wereinconstantwavingmotion.Highresolutionpicturesshowedthesetobesupportedbyrigidrodlikecores.Thestructureandbehaviorofthesemicrospikessuggesttheirroleasorganellesforselectiveattachmenttosolidsurfacesintheenvironment.
