Association of pteridines with amphibian larval pigmentation and their biosynthesis in developing chromatophores☆
[摘要] Inordertoascertaintheinterrelationbetweenchromatophoresandpteridinederivativesinurodeles,qualitativechangesinthesesubstanceswereobservedduringdevelopment.Inallspeciesemployedhere,youngembryoshavingnoapparentchromatophoreswerefreeoffluorescentpteridines.Asmallquantityofpteridinesappearedsimultaneouslywiththemelanophorepigmentation.Whenxanthophoresappeared,yellowfluorescentpteridinesbecamedistinguishable.Theamountofpteridinesincreasedthereafterwiththeaugmentationofchromatophorepopulation.Averysmallquantityofpteridineswasfoundinskincontainingmelanophores,butnospecificassociationofpteridineswithmelanophoreswasobserved.Thegreatestquantityofpteridineswasfoundinskinshavingxanthophorescontainingwater-solubleyellowgranules.Theseareassumedtobepteridines.RedchromatophoresofTriturusadultshavecarotenoidpigments,butlackpteridines.Isolatedposteriortrunkneuralcrestcellsofneurulae,culturedwithorwithoutanepidermalenvelope,formedpteridinescomparabletothoseofintactlarvae.Thepresenceofepidermisorofhumoralfactorsappeartohavelittletodowiththequalityofpteridinesynthesis.Thepteridinepatternisintrinsictoneuralcrestcells.
