An experimental analysis of molting in embryos of Melanoplus differentialis☆
[摘要] HistologicalstudyofembryosofMelanoplusdifferentialisandLocustamigratoriashowedthestructureofthetwoembryoniccuticlesandthenymphalcuticleofeachspeciesandtheexacttimeofembryonicmolts.ThetwoembryonicmoltsofM.differentialiswereanalyzedexperimentallybyisolatinginhangingdrops283wholeembryos,103anteriorhalves,98posteriorhalves,and497metathoraciclegs.Bothoftheembryonicmoltsoccurredinthemajorityofposteriorhalvesexplanted7daysbeforethefirstmolt.Mostoftheisolatedlegscompletedoneembryonicmolt,andsomeofthemcontinueddevelopingnormallythroughthesecondmolt.TheneuroendocrinesystemoftheheadandprothoraxisnotnecessaryforthecontrolofeitheroftheembryonicmoltsofM.differentialis.Embryonicdevelopmentisindependentofnervousorendocrinecentersinthehead,thorax,orabdomen.Thecoordinationandcontrolofembryonicmoltinginthisspeciesseemstolieintheepidermaltissue.
