Inhibition of lens regeneration by implanted lenses in the eyes of the adult newt Diemictylus (= Triturus) viridescens
[摘要] Lensregenerationfromthehost'sdorsaliriswasstudiedintheeyesof128adultsalamanders,Diemictylus(=Triturus)viridescens,thathadsuccessfullyreceivedsingleorpairedimplantsofregeneratinglensesvaryinginagefrom14to28days.Hostlensregenerationoccurredinthepresenceofeithersingleorpairedimplantsofeveryagestudied.Theratioofthesizeoftheexperimentalhostregeneratetothesizeofthecontrolhostregenerate(inthehost'sothereye)wasinverselyproportionaltothevolumeoftheimplantedlenses.Ageoftheimplantedlenseswasnotcorrelatedwiththereductioninrelativesizeoftheexperimentalhostregenerates.Thevolumesoftheimplantedlensesatthetimeoffixationweredirectlyproportionaltotheiragesatthetimeofimplantation.Theexperimentalresultssuggestquantitativedifferencesbetweenregeneratesofvaryingages.Theresultsfailtosupporttheconceptofaqualitativedifferencebetweenregeneratedlensesyoungerthan25daysoldandthosebeyondthatage.Theinhibitoryeffectonhostlensregenerationincreasesasthemassofimplantedlensmaterialisincreased.Theexistenceofaninhibitorysubstanceoflenticularoriginremainsspeculative.
