A Reciprocal Relationship between Cutaneous Nerves and Repairing Skin Wounds in the Developing Chick Embryo
[摘要] Variousstudieshavesuggestedthattherateofadultskinhealingmaybeinsomewaydependentonsignalsemanatingfromcutaneousnerves.Further,itappearsthatadultwoundsbecomehyperinnervatedbysensorynervesduringtheprocessofhealing.Inordertoinvestigatethisreciprocalrelationshipfurther,wehaveusedasimpleembryonicmodeltolookattheeffectofwoundsonnerves,andconversely,theeffectofnervesonwounds.Wefindthatwoundsmadetothedorsumofthechickwingbud,atastagepriortonormalinnervation(atE4),orsoonafterthenormalestablishmentofcutaneousinnervation(atE7),subtlyalterthepatternofbranchingbyperturbingdevelopmentalguidancecues,butdonotcausehyperinnervation,whereaswoundingatE14doescausehyperinnervation.Bycreatingchickswithnervelesswings,weshowthatfromE7,woundhealingintheabsenceofnervesissignificantlyimpaired.Theseobservationssuggestthat,fromtheearlieststagesofskininnervation,thepresenceofnervesisbeneficialtothehealingprocess,butthat,incontrasttoneonatalandadulttissues,woundhealingintheembryoandearlyfoetusdoesnottriggerhyperinnervation.
