[摘要] FromascreenforgenesexpressedandrequiredintheDrosophilasalivarygland,weidentifiedpasilla(ps),whichencodesasetofproteinsmostsimilartohumanNova-1andNova-2.Nova-1andNova-2arenuclearRNA-bindingproteinsnormallyexpressedintheCNSwheretheydirectlyregulatesplicing.Inpatientssufferingfromparaneoplasticopsoclonusmyoclonusataxia(POMA),Nova-1andNova-2proteinsarepresentasauto-antigens.Consistentwitharoleinsplicing,PSislocalizedtonuclearpuncta.Thesalivaryglandsofpsmutantsinternalizenormallyandmaintainepithelialpolarity.However,themutantsalivaryglandsdevelopirregularitiesinoverallmorphologyandhavedefectsinapicalsecretion.ThesecretorydefectsinpsmutantsprovideapotentialmechanismforthelossofmotorfunctionobservedinPOMApatients.
