Cytoplasmic filaments and morphogenetic movement in the amphibian neural tube
[摘要] CellsofthemedullaryplateandgroovewerestudiedwiththeelectronmicroscopeduringneurulationinHylaregillaandXenopuslaevisinanattempttolocatestructuresthatmightbeinvolvedinmorphogeneticmovement.Theapicesoftheneuralplatecellscontainathinbandoffilamentsalignedparalleltotheoutersurfaceoftheplate.Asneurulationproceeds,thegroovenarrowsanddeepens;correspondingly,thecellapicesnarrow,theapicalbandbecomesbroaderandcrowdedwithorientedfilaments,andthecellbodyassumesalongcolumnarorbottleshape.InXenopusfilamentsarearrangedcircularlyaroundthecellneck.Thecellapicesaretightlyjoinedtooneanother.Itisproposedthatfilamentcontractioncausestheneuralplatetoinvaginate.Thistheoryisdiscussedinrelationtoothertheoriesofneurulationandmorphogeneticmovements.
