On the genesis of cellular communication☆
[摘要] Theformationofjunctionalcommunicationbetweenspongecells(Haliclona,Microciona)wasexaminedwithanintracellularelectricaltechnique.Whendissociatedspongecellsaggregate,theyestablishcommunicationwithinminutesoftheirfirstmechanicalcontact:theionpermeabilitiesofthejunctionalcellsurfacesincreaseandaperijunctionaldiffusionbarrierforms.Ca++,Mg++,andanorganicfactor,thesameelementsknowntoberequiredforcelladhesion(Galtsoff,1925;Humphreys,1963;Moscona,1963),playaroleintheprocessesofestablishmentofcommunication,presumablyinthoseconcernedwiththeformationoftheperijunctionalbarrier.InabsenceofeitherCa++(andMg++)ortheorganicfactor,communicationfailstobeestablished;anduponwithdrawaloftheformer,establishedcommunicationisbroken.Ahypothesisisproposedtoaccountforthepermeabilityincreaseatthejunctionalcellsurfacesduringjunctionalformation.ThemainpointsofthehypothesisarethatCa++andMg++aredetachedfromthejunctionalsurfacesbyapump-dependentmechanismoperatingoveralloralargepartofthecellsurfaces;andthatthegradientsfavorsuchdetachmentselectivityatthejunctionalsurfacesoncethesebecomeinsulatedfromtheexteriorbytheperijunctionalbarrier.
