Comparison of Psychological Symptoms and Personality Characteristics between Patients with Multiple Sclerosis and Normal Matched People

[摘要] BackgroundandObjective:MultipleSclerosis(MS)isoneofthemostcommonneurologicaldiseaseinhumansandisthemostdisablingdiseaseinyoungadults.TheaimofthisstudywastocomparepsychologicalsymptomsandpersonalitycharacteristicsbetweenpatientswithMSandhealthycounterparts.SubjectsandMethods:Inthiscase-controlstudy,80patientswithMSand80healthycontrolsubjectswithoutMSwerematchedforgender,age,maritalstatusandeducationallevelwithpatientswithMS.Toolsusedincludeddemographicinformationquestionnaire,NEOFive-FactorInventory(NEO-FFI),SymptomChecklist-90-Revised(SCL-90-R).DatausingSPSSsoftwareandmultivariateanalysisofcovariance(MACNOVA)wereanalyzed.Results:Themeanscoresobtainedfromtheassessmentofpsychologicalproblemsthatapartfromtheparanoidideationsubscale,allsubscalesoftheSCL-90-Randgeneralindicatorssuchassomatization,obsessivecompulsive,interpersonalsensitivity,depression,anxiety,hostility,phobicanxiety,psychosis,GSI,PSDIandPSTinMSwerehigherthantheirhealthycounterparts(Plt;0.0001).Inaddition,themeanscoresforneuroticismandconscientiousnesspersonalitycharacteristicsinpatientswithMSwerehigher.However,meanscoresonextroversionandopennessfeatureswerehigherinhealthysubjectsthantheirMScounterparts.(Plt;0.0001).Conclusion:Basedontheresultsofthisstudy,symptomssuchassomatization,interpersonalsensitivity,depression,anxiety,hostility,phobicanxiety,andGSIandPSDIindicesinpatientswithMSarehigherthanthenormalcounterparts.Inaddition,patientswithMSshowmoreneuroticismandconscientiousness,whilethefeaturesofextraversionandopennessarelowerthanhealthyperosns.
