Comparison of Attitudes towards suicide and its Prevention in Medical Students before and after the Apprenticeship Course

[摘要] BackgroundandObjective:Doctorpatientrelationshipisdirectlyovershadowedbyphysician’sattitudetowardsuicide.Thisstudywasaimedtocomparetheattitudestowardssuicideanditspreventioninmedicalstudentsbeforeandaftertheapprenticeshipcourse.SubjectsandMethods:Inthisstudy96medicalstudentsparticipate(44beforeand50afterapprenticeshipcourse(wereselectedusingtheavailablesamplinginUniversityofmedicalsciencesofAhvaz.AquestionnaireonattitudestowardssuicideATTS(AttitudestowardsSuicide)wasusedtomeasuresuiciderelatedattitudesandthoughts.TheATTSitemsaddressattitudes,knowledge,andpersonalbeliefstowardsuicideandsuicideprevention.Also,thisquestionnaireincludessixsubscales.Permissiveness,preventability,incomprehensibility,avoidanceoftalking,unpredictabilityandlonelinessappeal.Results:Theresultsshowedthatmedicalstudentswhohadpassedthetrainingcourseincomparisionwithstudentswhohadnotpassed;therewerenosignificantdifferenceinsubscalesofincomprehensibility,avoidanceoftalking,unpredictabilityandlonelinessappeal.Butthereweresignificantdifferenceinsubscalesofpermissivenessandpreventability.Conclusion:Resultsshowedthatthetotalstudentviewstowardspreventionofsuicideandtherelationshipwiththesepatientsispositive.Theviewsofstudentswhohadpassedthecourseismorenegativethanothergroups.Therefore,perhaps,thetrainingintheattitudeofstudentswhohavepassedthecoursehasnotapositiveeffect.
