Determination of Mercury Attenuation Coefficient for Mercury Shielding for Radiotherapy Patients
[摘要] BackgroundandObjective:Theaimofradiotherapyisdeliverenoughdosestothetumorandprotectingorgansatriskthatarearoundthetumor.Inordertogetappropriatedosedistributiononecanuseradiationmodifiersandcompensators.Soknowingattenuationcoefficientofabsorbersisnecessaryfortreatmentcalculations.MaterialsandMethods:Inthisstudymercurywasintroducedassuitablematerialforradiotherapyshielding.Anewmethodispresentedbyphysicsofinteractionofphotonwithmatterandcomplexintegrationcalculationtocalculateattenuationcoefficientforanymaterialwithdifferentthicknessandenergies.Results:Radiationqualitychangeswiththicknessofabsorberandthisvariationweresignificant.However,changesinfieldsizesdidnotproduceanysignificantvariations.Conclusions:Variationofattenuationcoefficientwiththicknessofabsorbercannotbeignoredanditisnecessaryforaccurateradiotherapytreatment.Ontheotherhandusingonenumberasanattenuationcoefficientforradiotherapycompensatorsormodifiersisnotaccurateenoughandvariationofattenuationcoefficientwiththicknessofabsorbermustbeconsideredinradiotherapytreatmentplanningsystems.
