Skeletal Changes in Patients with Beta – Thalassemia Major in Ahwaz
[摘要] BackgroundandObjective:Thalassemiamajorhassevereclinicalsymptomswithcraniofacialdefectsthatproduceestheticproblemsinpatients.Orthodontictreatmentandsurgicalreconstructioninthesepatientshavehadgoodestheticresultsandthereforesatisfyingpschycosocialeffects.Researcheshaveshownanincreaseintheleveloflifequalitycorrespondingtohealthimprovementinthalassemicpatients.Moreknowledgeandinformationisnecessaryforbettertreatmentofskeletalproblemsinthalassemia.SubjectsandMethods:Thisdescriptiveandanalyticstudywasperformedon48-betathalassemiamajorpatientand48normalsamples.Theyweredividedintotwogroups(24persons)basedontheirgenders.Includingcriteriaforsampleswere:beingmorethan15yearsold,notbeingaffectedbyspecialdisorders,nothavingorthodonticandorthopedictreatment,havingClIprofile,normalfacialheight,ClImolarrelationship,normaloverbiteandoverjetandthepresenceofallpermanentteeth(exceptthirdmolar).Cephalometricanalysiswasusedforevaluationofcephalograms.TheresultswereanalyzedusingdescriptivestatisticalandpairedsampleT-test(Plt;0.005).Results:SNAangledidnosignificantincrease,butSNBandANBanglessignificantlydecreased(Plt;0.005).TheanglebetweenSN-Occlusalplans,Frankfort-y-axisplansandbasalplansshowedincrease,buttheanglebetweenFrankfort-facialplans(Plt;0.005)andthedistancebetweenpog-NBplanshoweddecrease(Plt;0.005).Conclusion:BetathalassemiamajorinducesClIImalocclusionandlongfacegrowthpatternduetodecreaseinmandibulargrowthanddecreaseinposteriorfacialheight.
