Apparent Survival of Adult Thayer's and Glaucous Gulls Nesting Sympatrically in the Canadian High Arctic

[摘要] Weestimatedapparentsurvivalof33adultThayer'sGullsLarusthayeriand21adultGlaucousGullsLarushyperboreusnestingsympatricallyatasmallcolonyonSt.HelenaIsland,Nunavut,inCanada'shighArctic,usingfiveconsecutiveyears(2003–2007)ofcapture-mark-resightdata.Resightingprobabilitieswerehighinallyearsforbothspecies(0.97).MeansurvivalforThayer's(0.81±0.05)waslow,butforGlaucousGulls(0.86±0.05)wascomparabletoestimatesofsurvivalreportedforlargegullselsewhere.Bothspeciesshowedhighannualvariationinsurvival,withoneyeareachofnoticeablylowersurvival,suggestingthatsomefactorsactingonsurvivalmayhavedifferedbetweenspeciesandcouldreflectdifferentspecies'exposuretonaturaloranthropogenicstressors.Ourfindingscontributetothelimiteddemographicinformationonthesepolargulls,andprovideabasisforfuturecomparisonsshouldtheybeaffectedbychangesintheirpolarenvironments.
