An Acoustic Comparison of Mimetic and Non-Mimetic Song in Northern Mockingbirds Mimus polyglottos
[摘要] Inthisdescriptivestudyweperformedanacousticcomparisonofmimeticandnon-mimeticsonginahighlyconspicuousmimic,theNorthernMockingbirdMimuspolyglottos.Usingautomatedacousticsoftwarewemeasured13acousticfeaturesfromthemimeticandnon-mimeticsongof13,free-living,malemockingbirdsrecordedduringthebreedingseason.Wefoundthatwhenmockingbirdsmimictheyextendthemaximumfrequencyoftheirsongbyover600Hz,whichincreasesthefrequencybandwidthby42%.Thesedifferencesmightreflectfemalepreferencefortheacousticfeaturespresentinmimeticsong,ortheymightrepresentanartefactofwhichparticularacousticmodelsareimitatedbymockingbirdswhendevelopingamimeticrepertoire.
