First Nest Records of the Boreal Owl Aegolius funereus in Nova Scotia, Canada
[摘要] AnineyearsearchforthefirstnestingBorealOwlsAegoliusfunereusinNovaScotia,CanadaculminatedinthediscoveryoftwonestsinCapeBretonHighlandsNationalParkofCanadain2004.In2005,onenestnorthoftheParkandanothernestonmainlandNovaScotiawerealsofound.Neststartdatesrangedfrom20Marchto3Juneoverthetwoyears;onlythenestwiththelateststartdatefailedentirely,theothernestsfledgedtwoorthreeyoungeach.Nestswereinborealforest,withBalsamFirAbiesbalsameaandWhiteBirchBetulapapyriferanormallydominating.ThesefindingsextendtheknownbreedingdistributionoftheBorealOwleastwardsbyapproximately450kmatthelatitudefound.
