Barn Owl Tyto alba Prey in Thessaly, and Evaluation of Barn Owl Diets Throughout Greece
[摘要] DietcompositionoftheBarnOwlTytoalbawasstudiedinagriculturallandscapesinThessaly,Greece,for3years(2003–05).Atotalof852Rattusspp.individualswereidentifiedfrom10065pellets,whichaccountedfor2.9%byfrequencyand27.4%bybiomassof29061preyitems.Rattusspp.weremorenumerousinBarnOwlpelletsduringwintermonthsthaninsummer.WesuggestthatthisdifferencewasduetoashiftinrelativepreyavailabilityandanincreasedneedforenergybytheBarnOwlduringthecoldermonths.ComparisonsbetweenThessalyand15otherareasshoweddifferencesinpreyavailabilitybetweenislandsandmainlandGreece.Microtusspp.wereabsentfromallislanddietsexceptone,andsomeislandshadgreaterspeciesrichness.
