Sexual Dichromatism in the European Magpie Pica pica. Not as Black and White as Expected
[摘要] Reflectancespectrometry,intheavianvisiblerange,iscurrentlyastandardmethodologicalapproachforplumagecolourassessmentinbirds.However,themethodgenerallyemployed,wherebyonlyoneobservationandilluminationangleisused,canfailtorevealimportantcolourcharacteristics.ThisstudyshowshowthesexualdichromatismoftheEuropeanMagpiePicapicacanbeoverlookedbytheuseofsingleanglespectrometry,ratherthanmultipleanglespectrometry,andstressestheneedtoadoptmorerefinedmethodsforplumagecolourassessment.Theresultsofthisstudymaynotonlyhaveimplicationsinaviancolourclassificationbutalsoinmanyrelatedfieldsofbiology.
