Mating Patterns in Avian Hybrid Zones — A Meta-Analysis and Review
[摘要] Hybridzonesprovideauniqueopportunitytostudythedynamicsofisolationbarriers.Pre-zygoticisolationthroughassortativeorconspecificmatingisthoughttobeanimportantaspectofreinforcementandspeciation.Althoughassortativematinghasreceivedmuchattentionandnearlyahundredtheoreticalmodelshavebeenpublished,thereisalargegapbetweentheoryontheonehandandempiricaldataontheother.Tofillthisgap,Icarriedoutameta-analysison58studieswhichwereidentifiedassuitablefortheanalysis.Moststudieshadbeencarriedoutinthefield(n=52),andsixwerebasedonmatechoiceexperiments.Fifty-threestudiesusedplumagescoresandfiveusedgeneticevidencetoassessparentaltypes.Ifoundnocorrelationbetweenthemagnitudeofeffectsizesanddateofpublishing(r=0.181,P=0.174,n=58).AfixedeffectsmodelwithoutanyunderlyingmodelstructureshowedaheterogeneityofQtotal=5454.6(df=57;Plt;0.001)andasignificantmeaneffectsizeof0.47(95%CI0.46–0.48).Theresultsofthemeta-analysisindicatethatthereisasignificanteffectofmediumstrengthofassortativematinginavianhybridzones.Bypartitioningthedata,Ifoundthateffectsizeswereverylargeinmatechoicetrials,andmediuminobservationsinnature.BasedontheinspectionsoftheCIsofthemeaneffectsizes,assortativematingappearedstrongestinPasseriformesandCharadriiformeshybridzones.Further,assortativematingwasstrongerinnarrowhybridzonescomparedtowideronesbutIfoundnodifferencebetweenstableandmovingzones.
