Large Angle Bending of the Light-Month Jet in Centaurus A
[摘要] AnintercontinentalVLBIobservationofCenAispresented.Wefoundthatthejetexhibitsbendingwithanangleof60°at2light-monthsfromthecore.BecauseofthelargeviewingangleofthejetinCenA,thisbendingshouldbearealbendofthismagnitude,ratherthanaprojectioneffect.Twopossibleinterpretationsofthebendingjet—jetcollisionwithambientmatter,andachangingangleofjetejection—havebeenconsideredandrejected.ThepossibilityisdiscussedthattheobservedbendingofCenAisanapparentbendresultingfromobservingalimb-brightenedjetwithinsufficientresolution,andcomparedwithanumericalsimulationofajet.AnotherimplicationofthebendingjetisdiscussedbasedonasimilaritywithtwootherAGNs,3C273andVirA,inwhichsimilarfeatureshavebeenreportedonthelight-monthsscale.TherelationshipbetweenthemassandthestructurescaleinVirAandCenAisverysimilar.ThisfeatureinCenAsuggeststhatsuchmis-alignmentsonthelight-monthscalearecommonandarerelatedtotheformationmechanismofAGNjets.
