Discovery of Non-Thermal X-Rays from the Shell of RCW 86
[摘要] WereporttheASCA(AdvancedSatelliteforCosmologyandAstrophysics)resultsofRCW86,ashell-likesupernovaremnant(SNR).ThebrightregionintheX-raybandtracestheradioclumpyshell,althoughdetailsofthestructurearedifferent.TheX-rayspectrumfromeachpartoftheshellcannotbefittedtoathinthermalplasmamodel,butrequiresatleastthreecomponents:alow-temperatureplasmaof0.3keV,ahigh-temperatureplasmaof≥severalkeV,andapower-lawcomponentwithaphotonindexof∼3.TheabundancesofO,Ne,Mg,andSiaresignificantlyhigherthanthatofFe,indicatingthatRCW86isatypeIISNR.Theabsorptioncolumnof∼3×1021Hcm-2indicatesthedistancetotheSNRtobeseveralkpc.Thepower-lawcomponentcanbeinterpretedtobesynchrotronradiationofhigh-energyelectrons.Assuminganenergydensityequipartitionbetweenthemagneticfieldandtheelectrons,andusingtheradioandX-rayspectra,wearguethathigh-energyelectronsareacceleratedupto20TeV.Theaccelerationefficiencyis,however,differentfromshelltoshell.
