Highly Polarized Burst of a Water Maser in Orion-KL
[摘要] Ithasbeenreportedthatthe22GHzwatermaserinthestar-formingregionOrion-KLhasstartedanoutburst(Omodakaetal.1998,IAUCirc.6893).Wemeasuredthelinearpolarizationofthemaseraftertheburst,duringaphaseofrapidfluxdensitydecrease.Wefoundthatthetotalfluxdensityof2.4×106Jy(1998December)exhibitsabout46%linearpolarization.Overthenextsixmonthswefoundthatthetotalintensitydecreasebyabouttwoordersofmagnitude,whilethefractionallinearpolarizationgraduallyfellto30%.Theseresultssuggestthatthepresentburstingphenomenonhasanoriginsimilartothesuper-masereventstartingin1979,andthatthephenomenonoftheextremelybrightmasersinthisregionisgeometricinnatureandrelatedtoastrongmagneticfield.
