Cancer Incidence in South East of Iran: Results of a Population-Based Cancer Registry

[摘要] Introduction::suitableinformationofdifferentcancersinspecialgeographicareascanhelpdefinemedicalprogramsfortreatmentandscreeningofhigh-riskgroups.AimsandMethods:TheaimofthisstudyistopresentthefrequencyofcancersinHospitalsoftheZahedan.Acomprehensivesearchwasundertakentosurveyandregisterallcasesofcancerrduringa4-year(2003-2006)periodamongtheindigenouspopulationofZahedan.Diagnosisofcancerwasbasedonhistopathology,clinicalorradiologicalfindings,anddeathcertificates.Fromtheseanalyses,thegeneralandspecificfrequenciesbyageandbysexwereobtainedforthedifferentgroupofneoplasms.Also,thefrequencyofthestageofthediseasethathadbeendiagnosedincaseswithsolidtumorswasobtainedResults:Atotalof1452patientswithcancers(meanage51‡19years)werefoundduringthestudy.Ofthese,841(58%)wereinmales.Gastrointestinalcancerswerethemostcommontumorswithafrequency30%.Inuppergastrointestinalcancers,Esophaguscancerwasthemostcommon(26%),followedbystomachmalignancies(22%),colorectal(20%),liver(15%).HematologicalmalignanciesweresecondcommonmalignanciesinZahedanwithafre-quencyof20%.InHematologicalMalignanciesALLwasthemostcommon(28.44%).Thetop5cancersinmales(excludingskincancer)accordingtothecalculatedASR(agestandardrate)wereesophagus,stomach,leukemia,colonandrectumandbladder;infemales,thesewerestomach,esophagus,breast,colonandrectumandlungandbronchus.InthechildpopulationthemostcommontumorswereAcutelymphocyticleukemia,lymphomaandbone.Conclusion:Hematologicalmalignanciesaloneconstitutesone-fifthofallcancersinZahedan,withthehighestASRincidenceratereportedfromIranuptonow,andoneofthehighestintheworld.TheprincipalscancersinthepatientstreatedinHospitalsofZahedanwereesophaguscancer,gastriccancer,Leukemia,andbreastcancerconsistentwiththosere-portedbyotherplace.InthispopulationLeukemiahadaveryhighincidence.Thisfactwillneedtobeconfirmedbyalongerperiodofobservation,butevennowthetotalnumberofcases(particularlyLeukemia)ishighwhencomparedwiththedataofotherLeukemiaregis-trieswhichgiveratesforlongerperiodandforsimilarorlargerpopulation.
