Relationship Between Nursing Managers’ Leadership Styles and Nurses’ Job Burnout: A Study at Shahid Dr. Faghihi Hospital, Shiraz, Iran
[摘要] Background:Burnout,whichismostlyfoundamongworkersinsocialserviceslikenursingandteaching,isacontinuedresponsetostressfulstimuliatwork.Objectives:Consideringtheimportanceofmanagementinnursing,weinvestigatedtherelationshipbetweenmanagers’leadershipstylesandnurses’burnout.PatientsandMethods:Thiscross-sectionalstudywasperformedatShahidDr.FaghihiHospital,Shiraz,in2011.ItwasbasedontheMaslachBurnoutModel.Arandomsampleof207nursescompletedaquestionnaireassessingdemographiccharacteristics,aburnoutmeasure,andthemultifactorleadershipquestionnaire(MLQ).DatawerestatisticallyanalyzedusingSPSS.ThestudyperiodwasfromJanuarytoMarch2011.Results:Burnoutscoresforemotionalexhaustionwereaboveaverage(27.26),fordepersonalizationwerelow(5.96),andforreducedpersonalaccomplishmentwerehigh(30.85).Inaddition,bothtransformational(P=0.03)andtransactionalleadership(P=0.04)hadasignificantnegativerelationshipwithtotalburnoutandalsowithemotionalexhaustion(Pvalue=0.01)anddepersonalization(P=0.003).Laissez-faireleadershiphadasignificantnegativerelationshipwithreducedpersonalaccomplishment(P=0.004).Conclusions:Thisstudyshedslightontheeffectiveroleoftransformationalleadershipinimprovingnursingmanagementandreducingburnoutamongnurses.Becausethisstyleofleadershipenhancescreativityandmotivationamongnurses,itcandecreaseburnout.Transactionalleadership,becauseofitsemphasisoncollaboration,alsoreducesburnout.Thereforeacombinationofthesetwostylescanreducenurses’burnout.
