Breast Self-Examination among Female Nurses in Jordan.

[摘要] Objectives:Inthepast20years,breastcancerincidenceintheworldhasadramaticincreaseof50-100%,whichstronglysupportstheneedforbreastcancerprevention,andscreeningprograms.Thepurposeofthisstudywastoidentifyandinvestigatetheknowledgeandpracticeofbreastself-examination(BSE)withtheinfluencingfactorsonthecomplianceof(BSE)amongfemalenurses.Methods:studywasconductedbetweenJanuaryandDecember2002.Femalenurses(80)fromPrinceRashidMilitaryHospitalconstitutedthestudypopulation.Thequestionnairecontaineditemsonthedemographiccharacteristicsoftherespondents,knowledgeofbreastcancer,attitudestowardBSEandquestionsregardingthepracticeofBSE.TheanalysisincludeddescriptivestatisticstoexaminetheassociationbetweenBSEandmedicalhistory,knowledgeofBSEandattitudestowardBSE.Results:Theresultsofthestudyindicatedthat52%ofthesampleperformsBSE.Approximately30%ofthosewhoperformBSEsaidtheylearnedinformationregardingBSEduringtheirworkexperience.ThesignificantrelationwasfoundbetweenhigherlevelsinworkexperienceandBSEpractice.Exceptforage,nosignificantrelationwasfoundbetweenthesocio-demographicfactorsandBSEpractice.ThesampleshowedstrongbeliefinbreastlumpasacausingfactorofbreastcancerandhadsignificantcorrelationwithBSEpractice.conclusion:PositivecorrelationswerefoundbetweennursingworkexperienceandtheirpracticeinBSEasworkingnurses.StudieslikethesecanenhancetheknowledgeregardingBSEamongnursesandothermedicalprofessionals.
