Heterophile Antibodies Amongst Normal University of Benin Undergraduate Students
[摘要] Abstract:ThePaul-BunnelpresumptivetestforinfectiousmononucleosiswasusedtodeterminetheincidenceofHeterophileantibodiesinseraofunder-graduatestudentsofUniversityofBenin.Ahighincidence(71.6%)ofheterophileantibodiesinseraofthosesubjectsisreported.Significantheterophileantibodytiterof1in80andabovewasobtainedin5.9%ofsubjects.Femalehadahigherincidenceofheterophileantibodies(75.9%)thanmales(66.7).Theagegroups25-29yearshadthehighestincidence(78.5%)ofheterophileantibodies.Serologicaltestingofpatients’bloodwasnecessarytodistinguishtheclinicalsymptomsofinfectiousmononucleosisfromthoseofotherinfectiousdiseasessuchasinfluenza,rubellaandhepatitis.Ourfindingsareofpublichealthimportance.
