Effectiveness of Methylphenidate Supplemented by Zinc, Calcium, and Magnesium for Treatment of ADHD Patients in the City of Zahedan

[摘要] Background:Thisstudyinvestigatesthetherapeuticeffectofacombinationofmethylphenidateandazinc,calcium,andmagnesiumsupplementforthetreatmentofattentiondeficithyperactivitydisorder(ADHD)inapopulationofchildrenfromthecityofZahedan.Methods:Thisclinicaltrialinvolved40patientswithADHDaged6to12.Simpleconveniencesamplingwasconductedandthepatientswererandomlydividedintotwogroups:acasegroupwhichreceivedmethylphenidateandazinc,calcium,andmagnesiumsupplement;andacontrolgroupwhichreceivedmethylphenidateplusaplacebo.Numericalvariableswerepresentedasamean(SD)andnominalandcategorizedvariablesweresummarizedbyabsolutefrequenciesandpercentages.Tocomparethebaselinemeasurementsbetweenthetwogroups,achi-squaretest,anindependentt-test,andapairedtestwereused.ThedataanalysiswasdoneusingthestatisticalsoftwareSPSS,version18.0.Results:Themeanageofthechildreninthecasegroupwas9.6±1.5yearsandthatofthechildreninthecontrolgroupwas8.9±1.6years(P=0.235).Ofthechildren,32wereboys(80%)and8weregirls(20%)(P=0.429).Themeanforsymptomseverityinthecasegroupwas40.4±2.4beforetreatment,and19.5±6.1after8weeksoftreatment(Plt;0.001).Conclusions:Thisstudyshowsthatazinc,calcium,andmagnesiumsupplementiseffectiveinthetreatmentofADHD.
