Asymmetric synthesis of beta-lactams

[摘要] Several routes to optically enriched 2-azetidinones have been investigated. The most successful of these was that based on highly diastereoselective cycloaddition reactions between homochiral imines derived from (S)-methyl lactate and a range of achiral ketenes. The synthetic potential of the resulting azetidinones with respect to bicyclic beta-lactam formation has also been investigated.
