The Institution of Cooperation, Credit and the Process of Development in the Indian and Pakistan Punjabs

[摘要] The Thesis is primarily an assessment of the performance of agricultural credit cooperatives in the Punjab, before and after its partition in 1947. The intrinsic principles of cooperation are traced to their European origin and examined critically. The manner in which the institution of cooperation was transferred to the United Punjab in the early twentieth century as an instrument of government social and economic policy is documented. The evolution of government sponsorship of cooperative credit provision as an instrument of development is traced in the Indian and Pakistan Punjabs with particular reference to a representative area of the Pakistan Punjab.
