Stratospheric Equatorial Waves Observed During the Line Islands Experiment 1967

[摘要]  Two kinds of equatorial waves are predominantly observed during the Line Islands Experiment (March-April, 1967),. The one is mixed Rossby-gravity waves in the layer of 25-35 mb where the basic westerlies weaken with height. The other is Kelvin waves in the layer of 40-80 mb where the basic westerlies strengthen with height. The vertical convergence of the westerly momentum due to Kelvin waves may well contribute to the acceleration of the basic westerlies.
