On the Meteorological Tidal Waves in the Osaka Bay
[摘要] The height of the tidal waves caused by the meteorological agencies is determined mainly by the amount of the depression of the barometric pressure and by the velocity of wind blowing there. Barometric depression relates to the height of the tidal waves linearly but the wind velocity has a quadratic relation to it. The calculated height of the tidal waves using the meteorological data agrees quite well to the observed one. The largest error is only 0.3 feet. The oscillation of water in the bay has some influence on the height of tidal waves caused by the barometeric depression. The velocity of the propagation of the centre of depression is an important factor in this case.
