The Use of an Energy Principle to Define Atmospheric Balance

[摘要]  An alternative approach to the definition of balance using an energy principle is presented. In middle latitudes it reduces to Lagrangian semi-geostrophic theory. Numerical calculations are shown which illustrate how such a balanced state can be found by iterative methods.
