On the Capture of Small Particles by a Cylindrical Body in the Flow of Fluid
[摘要] If a cylindrical body is placed in two-dimensional potential flow of fluid suspending small particles, the proportion of captured particles by the body (α) is a function of V/KR only, where V is the velocity of fluid at infinity, R the radius of the cylindre, K=9/2μ/ρα2, μ the viscosity of fluid, and α and ρ the radius and the density of suspended particles respectively. The equation of motion of particle is not soluble directly. But when V/KR is sufficiently greater or smaller than unity, an approximate integration is possible. By this way the author found that α is practically zero when V/KR<1/10, and is nearly equal to unity when V/KR>10. The results were also applied to the problem of ice formation on aircraft.
