On the Atmospheric Turbulence, 1st Paper

[摘要] The experimentally obtained logarithmic fovmula of the wind velocitywhere u denotes the wind velocity and Z the height, α and Z0 being constants, is examined in the light of data of Best, Heywood and Hellmann. The formula represents well the data of Best and Heywood but not that of Hellmann. The author considers that this reveals the deficiency of the experimental formula.Hence a new formula of the eddy viscosity in the stratified atmosphere is deduced, where K. and K denote thee ddy viscosity in the stratified and the adiabatic atmosphere respectively, β the Rossby constant, and Ri the Richardson number.The author further discusses the controversy between Sutton and Sverdrup on the velocity distribution and supports Sutton.
