A Characterisation of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionisation

[摘要] Matrix-assisted Laser Desorption Ionisation (MALDI) is a laser based technique which can produce intact high mass ions from labile molecules initially in the solid state. The technique is now widely used in analytical chemistry and biochemistry but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. The aim of the work undertaken by the author was to carry out a characterisation of MALDI and ultimately develop the technique to the stage where it could be used routinely as an ion source for photofragmentation studies.
