5-HYDROXYTRYPTAMINE METABOLISM IN RABBITS AND GUINEA PIGS
[摘要] References(8)Cited-By(3)Recently, Erspamer (1) has reported that the urine of adult rabbit, guinea pig and horse contains no detectable 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), which is found in the urine of man, dog and rat as a main metabolite of endogenous 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), and he (2) has suggested that in adult herbivores the metabolic pathway for 5-HT may be different from that existing in carnivorous and omnivorous mammals. It may be supposed that, in herbivorous animals, oxidative deamination of 5-HT is only the first step of a more radical breakdown process, which may even involve the rupture of the indole ring.In the present investigation, experiments were designed, therefore, to examine the metabolic sequence of 5-HT.
